DESCRIBING GOD
Understanding Who God is, what His nature and attributes are, can be helpful in motivating our awe, trust, love, and service. And imagine what life would be like in the total absence of God!
Merciful
De 4:31 (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you…
2 Ch 30:9 For if you return to the Lord, your brethren and your children will be treated with compassion by those who lead them captive, so that they may come back to this land; for the Lord your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn His face from you if you return to Him.
Ps 103:8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
1 Pe 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
Faithful
1 Co 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one
Light
1 Jo 1:5 …God is light and in Him is no darkness at all
Ps 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
Love
1 Jo 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 Jo 4:16 …God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
Ps 36:7 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
Righteous
Ps 145:17 The Lord is righteous in all His ways,
Gracious in all His works.
Ja 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Savior
Ps 62:7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.
Is 12:2: Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid..
Truth & Knowledge
1 Sa 2:3 …the Lord is the God of knowledge;
And by Him actions are weighed.
Ja 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
Helper & Refuge
Ps 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Ps 118:6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
Peace
2 Co 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort
2 Co 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
Good
Ps 100:5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
Provider
Ac 14:17 Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
We have an amazing and wonderful God! Why would anyone want to be separated from Him and His characteristics? Sin separates us from God (Is 59:1-2). No sin is worth that!
