Getting What You Give
Getting What You Give
Matthew 7:12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
I’m sure most people are familiar with what we call the “golden rule”, “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” However, what many may not realize is that what we do to others is indirectly what we do to ourselves. Throughout the Bible this simple principle of getting back what you give to others is taught in many different ways.
Proverbs 26:27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.
If you are digging a pit or rolling a stone with the intentions of harming someone, you had better look out. The pit you are digging for someone else, you may fall into. The stone you are rolling to harm someone else may roll back on you. When you intend to do harm to anyone else, in the end you will be doing harm to yourself.
Proverbs 11:25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
When we have compassion on others and are willing to be generous to share with them, our God in heaven sees our generosity and in turns blesses us.
Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard.
On the other hand, if we close our ears and our hearts to those in need when we are able to help, if there comes a time when we are in need and cry out for help, we will not be heard or helped. When you have compassion on others and are willing to help others, in the end you are helping yourself.
Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
There will unfortunately be times in your life when other people will sin against you. When those times do come remember the mercy shown to us by our God. Know that God wants us to merciful to those who sin against us.
Matthew 6:14-15 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
If we have no mercy on others when they sin against us, then our God will have no mercy on us when we sin against Him. Anytime someone who has sinned against you desires forgiveness, we must be willing to forgive them so our God will be willing to forgive us.
Be careful of what you do to others. Do to them what you would want them to do to you, because in the end you are doing it to yourself
