On Disagreement
Any time you find yourself in a disagreement with someone else, remember:
- Talking the loudest does not make you right.
- Talking the fastest or the most does not make you right.
- Being more impassioned or emotional does not make you right.
- Sighing or rolling your eyes does not make you right.
- Inserting foul language does not make you right.
- Getting angry and yelling does not make you right.
- Attacking the other person’s motives or honesty does not make you right.
- Using personal insults or ridicule does not make you right.
- And … being convinced that you are right does not excuse you from treating the other person fairly and kindly.
“Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person” (Colossians 4:6).
“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12).
