Update on Services 05/12/2020

The elders have continued to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely, and have reviewed information regarding the resumption of services at the church building.  At present we believe that it is in the best interest for everyone that we abide by the recommendations, where applicable and appropriate, contained in the Arkansas Department of Health publication “Guidance for Places of Worship” (click here to see recommendations).  Members should review these guidelines and determine if they are at a higher risk, and whether it is advisable that they attend services in person or continue to livestream the services.

We will continue livestreaming our service as we have been doing.  This will likely be continued indefinitely for the benefit of our shut-ins and sick.  However, it is our goal to resume services at the building as soon as feasible, and the livestreaming should not be considered a substitute for attending for those who are able when the COVID-19 crisis is over.

To comply with these recommendations there will of necessity be changes in the observance of the Lord’s Supper and collection of the contribution.  Rather than passing trays containing the unleavened bread and fruit of the vine, individual serving containers will be distributed when entering the building.  At the communion portion of our service, these will be opened and partaken of.  Afterwards, the container should be replaced in the plastic bag, which can then be disposed of after services in waste receptacles in the foyer.  Contributions will be collected in the foyer, either upon arrival or when leaving services.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to resume classes at this time.  This will be considered when we have reached Phase 2 or Phase 3.

As per the guidelines, social distancing is still recommended and avoidance of physical contact should continue.  It is also recommended that everyone 10 years and older should wear facemasks during services. We will try to have facemasks available for those who have not yet acquired their own. This will impact our ability to sing, but we should remember that we are making melody in our heart, and sing as best we are able.

Because of the physical distancing requirements, there may be insufficient room for everyone who wishes to attend a single service.  It may be necessary to have two services, depending on how many people will be able to come.  Emails and surveys have been sent, seeking input from our members so that we may plan appropriately.  Please respond to these as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made.

At this time, we will continue to omit Sunday evening services, but will continue livestreaming Wednesday’s lessons.  We hope that we will soon be able to resume Sunday evening and Wednesday evening services.

COVID-19 has impacted our event schedule greatly.  Our Spring meeting was canceled as a result, but we are asking Micky Galloway to return to present the lessons regarding marriage and the family.

Sadly, Vacation Bible School will be canceled this year as well.  The situation is too unsettled and there is insufficient time to prepare adequately.

We appreciate the support we have received thus far from our members.  If you have comment or questions, please contact us.  Continue to check on each other, and pray for our congregation.

In Christian love,

The elders of the StoneRidge church of Christ

Leon, Kemuel, and Scott
