    Politics

Reminders for a political season (mostly for me):

    1. We are not baptized into a political party, but into Christ. This sets our priority.

    2. Only Christ, not a party, is to be sanctified in our hearts as Lord (1 Pet 3:15). There is no competition for Lordship. If there is, we are guilty of idolatry.

    3. The Christian’s identity is wrapped up in Christ, not in a party or human. To live is Christ (Phil 1:21; Col 3:4).

    4. No party or other person has been crucified for us. Nor are we crucified with or for a party, but only Christ…

  • What is Truth?

In the eighteenth chapter of John, Christ stood before Pontius Pilate to answer charges of insurrection. Pilate, the governor of Judea, asked Christ if he was the King of the Jews. Christ answered by saying His kingdom was not of this world. Pilate then asked if He was a King. Jesus responded in John 18:37 by saying, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is…

  • Bible Burning

When I hear a news item that seems too bizarre to be true, I go to the Internet to see if reliable sources can verify what happened. When I heard about Bibles being burned by Black Lives Matter protesters in Portland, Oregon, such an action seemed dubious. Why would a “civil rights” group want to […]

  • Talk Is Cheap

“The reason talk is cheap,” said one wise man, “is because the supply always exceeds the demand.”

That’s certainly true in the internet age! Websites are cluttered with strings of comments that users have made about — well, anything and everything. You didn’t ask for their opinions, but you get them anyway. Even when they aren’t using their mouths, some folks are doing a lot of talking. And, if you’re like me, you’ve found that much of it isn’t worth hearing (or reading).

    “In the multitude of words…

  • The Gospel...By Which You Are Saved

The saving gospel needs no revisions, additions or alternations. The gospel, as it is, will save man as he is. "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:1-2) Salvation can be a reality only when the saving gospel is proclaimed, accepted and obeyed.
