  • Getting What You Give

    Getting What You Give

Matthew 7:12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

I’m sure most people are familiar with what we call the “golden rule”, “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” However, what many may not realize is that what we do to others is indirectly what we do to ourselves. Throughout the Bible this simple principle of getting back what you give…

  • The Prodigal Sons

At the beginning of Luke chapter 15, we find the Pharisees and Scribes grumbling about Jesus because He received and even ate with sinners.  Jesus, knowing His audience’s differing perspectives and intentions, responds by telling them three parables that display the love of God.  The first parable is about a man who lost a sheep and he left all to find what was lost.  The second parable is about a woman who lost one coin and did not stop until she found it.  The third parable paints a beautiful picture about the love that God has for His children.…

  • Examine Yourselves

    Examine Yourself

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves,  that Jesus Christ is in you? — unless indeed you are disqualified.

We are told in this scripture to examine and test ourselves to see if we really are in the faith. The question I must ask is how do I test myself? How can I know I am in the faith?

John 12:48 He who rejects Me, and does not…

  • Christ Is the Answer...But What's the Question?

I sometimes see T-shirts, bumper stickers, and billboards with the slogan, “Christ is the answer.” But what questions is He the answer to? Consider a few.

How many paths to God are there? Christ is the answer. “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Does God really love me? Christ is the answer. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

  • Solomon

As the season of gift giving approaches, we hear people asking the question “What gift would you like this year?”  Usually this inquiry comes from parents or grandparents and it is usually addressed to the youngsters among us.  But in I Kings 3:5-15 we find the account a young man, Solomon, who at no more than 18 finds himself being asked by God, “What shall I give you?”

Think on that for a moment. The creator of the universe asking you what would you like from Him. What would be your response?  Well, Solomon, the third son of King…

  • Specks and Logs

A survey on teen ethics asked nearly 30,000 high school students about their moral standards and behavior. Some of the results: 25% admitted to stealing from parents, relatives or friends during the past year; 33% said they had shoplifted; and 64% said they had cheated on at least one test. But most interesting of all, 77% of those students said they believe they are “better than most people” when it comes to doing the right thing!

Whether teens or adults, it’s easy to be blind to our own faults. And even when…

  • Complaining and Grumbling

    Jude 16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts;

Throughout the scriptures there is an attitude that is always condemned by God. It is the attitude of being a gripping, grumbling, complaining , murmuring, negative person.

1 Corinthians 10:10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

So what exactly does it mean to be a complainer or a murmurer? I do not believe we are expected to enjoy suffering. When Jesus was…
