In recent times, it has been argued that clapping as a rhythmic accompaniment to singing in Christian worship is not an addition to the singing (as is a mechanical instrument). It merely is an aid comparable to a songbook.

From time to time, I've had conversations with folks who insist that the Lord speaks directly to them. Some borrow language from an encounter Elijah had with God in 1 Kings 19:12 ("a still small voice"). One described the Lord's voice as being loud and authoritative.
