Psalms 2 speaks of the Lord’s Anointed One who will crush the foes of God with a “rod of iron… like a potter’s vessel” vs 9. This sentiment is echoed in Revelation to the church in Thyatira where it says, “he will rule them with a rod of iron” Rev 2:27.

Few people would question the fact that the Holy Spirit in some way dwells within the Christian. Paul wrote to the saints in Corinth: "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you…" (I Cor. 6:19). He further wrote, "Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" (Romans 8:9). There is considerable disagreement, however, as to how the Spirit dwells within a Christian. Jesus encourages honesty in His disciples. In Jesus’ time, the prevailing practice is to use oaths to bolster credibility (I swear by the temple!) and occasionally to lie freely (I swore by the altar, not the gift on the altar, so I don’t have to keep it!) So He teaches His disciples not to take oaths at all. “Let what you say be simply, ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil”(Matt 5:37). Followers of Jesus must develop a reputation for honesty so that our “yes” or “no” will be believed.

Two men are religious, and both seem to be sincere, but they never seen to agree on religious questions. A brief look at their applications of the Bible helps to explain their problem.
The first man views the Bible as the complete and final answer to all religious questions pertaining to salvation. For him, a clear statement from the Bible ends all controversy.
